Onteora Mountain House

Hey everyone.

Funnily enough, The Onteora Mountain House was the first place we saw when we started looking. And saying that is no small deal either. Do you know how many places there are to get married within two hours of NYC?!?!? We looked at barns, cookie cutter reception halls, wineries and inns for weeks, and for some reason, we always kept coming back to Onteora.

When we went up there to visit for the first time we'd already seen three places that day and arrived at Onteora only ot have our breath taken away. The view is amazing. The inn itself is beautiful and quaint. It's was exactly the place we'd always pictured ourselves getting married.

Where should we stay?

One of the great things about the Catskills is that there are so many really beautiful places to stay. We recommend booking rooms early. if you have any questions, please feel free to email us (traciandjeff@gmail.com).

We are recommending a few pla
ces to stay, but feel free to explore the area, there are amazing inns and bed & breakfasts around every corner. Please book accommodations as soon as possible, as they fill up very fast the closer you get to summer.

We've put a bunch of rooms on hold at few places and have noted them below.

Yes, it’s a Holidome. Bring your bathing suits and quarters for the video games. Fifteen minute drive to Onteora Mountain House. Restaurant and bar on premises. Located conveniently off of the New York Thruway.

This hotel is opening in April 2006. We haven't seen it yet, but it's right off the thruway in Kingston and just 10/15 minutes away from Onteora. Once again, we have a bunch of rooms on hold with our names, so make sure you let them know.

It’s summer camp for adults. 30 Rooms in cabins located just 10 minutes walking to Woodstock town center. All rooms are cute with air conditioning. Very cute restaurant and bar located on premises (bug juice optional). Fifteen minute drive to Onteora Mountain House.

Mt. Tremper, NY 12457

(Rooms held under Provizer/Kaye Wedding)
The Kate of Kate’s Lazy Meadow is none other then Kate Pierson of the B52’s. That alone should give you an idea of what to expect. The eight rooms here are all decorated pretty 50s kitsch, but not overboard. They also have four Airstream mobile homes decorated personally by Kate and we’ve heard by next summer they might even have a few Tee Pee’s to rent kimosabe. Located five minutes from Onteora Mountain House.

The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream ($109-$219)

48 Tannery Brook Road
Woodstock, NY 12498
845.679.8211
www.woodstock-inn-ny.com
Quaint Inn right outside of Woodstock. Just as the name suggests it’s right on a stream, and the rooms are impeccably decorated. One favor, don’t tell them you’re from a wedding party. They won’t rent the rooms out to too many people from one wedding party.

Emerson Place ($190-$400 (Family) / Night)
5340 Route 28,
Mount Tremper, NY 12457
845.688.2451

When you picture staying in the Catskills, this is the kind of place that immediately jumps to mind. Beautiful, rustic rooms that have all the amenities - even a creek rushing by outside your window. Nice restaurant and bar on premises. Located ten minutes from Onteora Mountain House.

How do we get there?

Take Route 212 west. At Bearsville, where 212 turns right, fork left onto Route 45. After 2.5 miles, pass the Wittenburg General Store and immediately turn left onto Coldbrook Road. Cross the town line into Olive and proceed one-half mile to our sign and gate on the left.

From Anywhere Else to Onteora: (a longer trip)

Exit the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) at Interchange 19 (Kingston). Take the first right at the rotary (Route 28 West - Pine Hill).

Continue 15 miles to the town of Boiceville. Pass the Onteora High School complex and turn right at the first road, Piney Point Rd. Proceed up the mountain for a mile. Just as the road starts to level off you will see a large wooden gate on the right, and a sign: “ Onteora, The Mountain House.”

Gift Registry

We can't remember the last time we were asked to come up with lists of presents for people to get us. However, we both remember going through the Toys-R-Us insert in the Sunday paper and drooling over Chanukah presents. Of course our choices were different then, but we're happy to say that we both have similar tastes as adults (although, please note that Jeffrey would like Playstation 3 when they come out. Traci probably does not.).

And we must say this list is only a starting point. There are plenty of things we like more than Calvin Klein Stoneware. If you think you know what we like, you probably do.

REGISTRY SITES

(Ahh, the tried and true! The let you walk through the store with a scanner and pick things you want. Pretty Rad.)

(Very cool web site that serves as registry for cute New York stores)

(this is the one place we were able to find our china pattern. and, although the picture on the site is of that color, ours is actually white on white. very pretty and we're excited about it. yeah, that's right, we're excited about a china pattern. weird.)
